An officer originally appointed in 1504 to compile and maintain the records of the University, now the secretary to the Council, the chief executive and policy-making body; the head of the University’s unified administrative service. Gonville and Caius College also boasts a Registrary, whereas most colleges boast only of a Registrar, or a Registrar of the Roll, a person who keeps track of the records and careers of past students.
