Biography:
Dame Ann Dowling is a mechanical engineer whose research on combustion and acoustics saw her awarded a CBE for services to engineering and a DBE for services to science. Professor Dowling was Head of the Department of Engineering from 2009 to 2014, where she became the first female Professor in 1993. She is currently the first female President of the Royal Academy of Engineering.
