Biography:
Jean Bacon is an Emeritus Professor of Distributed Systems and a Director of Studies in Computer Science at Jesus College. From the 1980s, she led the Opera Research Group at the Department of Computer Science and Technology, with focus on the design and deployment of open, large scale, widely distributed systems. In 1985, Bacon was the first woman to be appointed to a Lectureship in the Cambridge University Computer Laboratory. She is an Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and British Computer Society Fellow.
