Biography: 

First woman appointed a professor at Harvard University. https://www.history.ac.uk/makinghistory/historians/cam_helen.html Graduated from Royal Holloway in history, arrived at Girton in early 1920s, and became a leading authority on local government in medieval England. A member of the Labour Party, she made financial contributions to the Romsey Labour Club on Mill Road and stood for election for Labour in the Histon division for the then 'Cambridge County Council' as was then. She was unsuccessful and never stood again. Appointed to the Zemurray Radcliffe Professorship at Harvard. Retired 1954.
