Cambridge University Library

The Reading Room, housing the Library's main reference collection and with 192 seats for readers, is located on the first floor of the University Library. It may be used by any reader who wishes to consult reference works housed in the room or for general reading of books from any part of the open Library.

Staff at the main Reading Room desk will be pleased to assist you in using the Library and can provide expert advice on the reference collection.

The Reading Room also houses space to consult non-borrowable modern items from the collections. This material is orderable through iDiscover or through filling out a paper form. The material will be delivered to the Reading Room Desk, where it may be collected from staff. The majority of the items collected from the Reading Room may be read anywhere in the Library. There is some material that must be read in the Reading Room; staff will advise you. Paper order forms are available from the Reading Room Desk.

Lidded drinks are allowed in this Reading Room, but please do not bring unlidded drinks or food into this room. You may take photos of the building, and of the items ordered to this room (within copyright).
