Web-based printing
You can use the Managed Print Portal to print to MFDs using just a web browser. You do not need to install any additional software. You can temporarily save files on Library computers in order to upload them.
Using a web browser simplifies the printing process and works securely across all devices. Documents are uploaded to a UIS-Managed on-premise server and are deleted after printing.
- On the web portal, select Sign in with Microsoft, enter your login and authenticate
- Choose Web Print from the sidebar, and Submit a Job
- You will see all printers in the University - use the search bar or scroll and select print\UL_FindMe (virtual)
- Choose a number of copies you need, Upload Documents and drag-and-drop or browse to the document(s) to print
- Swipe your University or Library card at an MFD, and use the touchscreen to release the print job
When using the web portal, you can only print A4, greyscale, 2-sided.
Printing directly
You may prefer to print directly from applications such as Office, or print online documents without reuploading them to the web portal. Follow these steps to install Print Deploy, and connect your account to the printers for the first time on a Library computer.
- On a Library computer, click the Print Deploy icon (green printer) in the bottom-right taskbar notification area and select View my printers
- In the pop-up window select Sign in with Microsoft, enter your login and authenticate
- Choose Add Printers from the sidebar
- You will see all printers in the University - use the search bar or scroll and install UL_FindMe (University Library)(Mobility)
- Choose 'UL_FindMe (University Library)(Mobility)' when you print as usual from applications such as Office, or online
- Swipe your University or Library card at an MFD, and use the touchscreen to release the print job
Find guidance to install Print Deploy on a personal device on the University Information Services site.
Copying and scanning
You may make a single copy of a published literary, artistic, dramatic or musical work for your own personal non-commercial research or private study by means of photocopying or scanning or photography, to the following limits:
- one chapter of a book, or extracts from a book up to a maximum of 5% of the whole of the book
- one article of a journal issue
There are different established guidelines / exceptions for maps, music, poems, unpublished archives and manuscripts, photographs, judicial proceedings and more. More information is available in the Copyright LibGuide.
Swipe your University or Library card on the MFD to photocopy for the same charge as printing, or scan to the email address associated with your library account for free - you may need to ensure this email address is correct using the touchscreen. Visit the Reading Room staff for assistance with using the MFDs.
