Welcome to the UL! Please note that for security purposes, all bags, rucksacks, and tote bags must be deposited in the locker room before entering. 

The locker room is to the left of the Entrance Hall as you come in. The room is accessed via a flight of six steps. Unfortunately, there is no step-free alternative access. If you need to bring a bag into the library due to accessibility needs, please visit the Reader Services Desk to obtain a bag tag.

 

Using the lockers

  • Lockers are free to use.
  • Instructions:
    • Place your belonging inside, close the door, and align the handle into the upright position. 
    • To lock: Enter a four-digit code twice.
    • To unlock: Enter the same four-digit code once.
  • Tip: We recommend making a note or taking a photo of your locker number for convenience.

 

Bringing in your belongings

You may bring in anything you need for studying, such as:

  • Study materials
  • Laptops (including lightweight laptop cases)
  • Pens and pencils
  • Personal books
  • Library books
  • Small purses

You can carry your belongings or use a transparent bag. These will be checked upon your exit. 

 

Transparent bags

  • One transparent plastic bag is available for free at the Reader Services Desk, additional bags are 20p, payable by cash or card. 
  • You are also welcome to bring your own transparent bag.

 

Amenities

  • Vending Machine: Cold drinks and snacks are available for purchase in the locker room.
  • Water: Water coolers are located in the locker room and Tea Room. Speak to a member of staff if the bottle has run out.
