Records of the 7:84 (England) Theatre Company were deposited in the University Library by the company's founder, John McGrath. Archives of the sister company, 7:84 Scotland, are held in the National Library of Scotland (Manuscripts Division, George IV Bridge, Edinburgh EH1 1EW, Accessions 10893, 12911 and 13017).
The papers cover the period 1966-1985, and include unpublished playscripts by McGrath, Ewan MacColl, Steve Gooch, Adrian Mitchell, and others. There are numerous production files, records relating to McGrath's early career, correspondence with other theatre and television companies, scrapbooks, and miscellaneous correspondence, together with articles and interviews re the Company. There is also an extensive correspondence with the various theatre funding bodies, when public funding of the company was cut in 1984-1985.
There is a catalogue on ArchiveSearch and a more detailed box list is available in the Manuscripts Reading Room.
