The papers of Jardine Skinner & Co., the Calcutta tea and general trading company were presented to the University Library by Jardine Henderson Ltd of Calcutta in March 1981.

The Jardine Skinner archives include several important and informative series of in- and out-letters, including correspondence with Jardine, Matheson & Co. in Hong Kong, Matheson & Co. in London, Remington & Co. and other Bombay firms, and various members of the Skinner and Keswick families. All these series are particularly rich for the second half of the nineteenth century. The collection, however, contains few accounting papers. With the main collection came further papers, presented by Sir John Brown of McLeod Russell & Co. These relate mainly to the activities of the Assam Trading (Holding) Ltd, the Makum (Assam) Tea Co. Ltd, and further material relating to various tea gardens in Assam, 1892-1973.

While the terms of deposit stipulate no restriction on access, many items in the Jardine Skinner archive are in very poor condition, and are consequently unavailable. A summary catalogue for the collection is available in the Manuscripts Reading Room and on the ArchiveSearch database.
